Cape Henry Collegiate’s Race at the Cape is celebrating over 18 years as an amazing family-oriented health and wellness activity for both the Cape Henry community and Hampton Roads runners and walkers. This annual event benefits the programs and activities of Cape Henry Collegiate. Last year’s race drew over 500 participants and was the perfect kick-off to the School’s Fall Festival and Alumni Reunion Weekend! At Cape Henry Collegiate, community is one of our core values and this event affords us a great opportunity to come together as a community for a good cause.


Location: Flat course winds through Brighton on the Bay and Linkhorn Cove neighborhoods and back to Cape Henry Collegiate.

Three medals! Two races! One Day of Fun!

Your challenge begins at 8:00 a.m. as you run/walk the 5K race on our campus and surrounding neighborhoods! After completing the 5K you will line up with our other One-Mile Run/Walk participants and do a quick mile loop around the campus.


Age Group Awards for the 5K Run/Walk will be presented at approximately 9:30 a.m.
Divisions: Under 10 / 11-13 / 14-18 / 19-29 / 30-39 / 40-49 / 50-59 / 60 and Over
Special Divisions: Military and Alumni

All participants will receive a custom-design, finisher’s medal.
There will be a different medal for each race and a special challenge medal for those participating in our Dolphin Double Challenge!
T-shirts are guaranteed for those participants who register by the September 25 deadline.

  • What do I get for my entry fee?

    All Race at the Cape (5K and One-Mile) participants receive:
    • A tech/performance race shirt (unisex and youth sizes)
      Shirts guaranteed for all participants who registered by September 25. After September 25, shirt requests will be fulfilled, if quantities are still available.
    • Custom Finisher Medal
    • Pre- and Post-Race Snacks and Beverages
    • Goody bag filled with giveaways and coupons
    All participants are invited to Cape Henry Collegiate's Fall Festival, located on campus in the Alfred T. Taylor Field House, where you will find fun games, great activities, and delicious food for the whole family!
  • When/Where can I pick up my race packet?

    Early packet pick up will be on Friday, October 11 from 2:00-6:00 p.m. at the main entrance of Cape Henry Collegiate (1320 Mill Dam Road, Virginia Beach, Va. 23454). Runners are encouraged to pick up early to avoid lines on race day. Because early packet pick-up will begin prior to the end of the school day, if you are not on campus prior to 3:00 p.m., we ask that you wait until after 3:45 p.m. to pick up your packet to avoid afternoon dismissal congestion.

    You may pick up packets for friends and family.

    Packet pickup is also available at the School on race day from 7:00-8:00 a.m.

    Race packets and materials will not be mailed to any registered participants.
    Packets will not be held for pick up after the race.
  • Can I register on race day?

    Race day registration will be available from 7:30 a.m. to 8:15 a.m. Late registrations are not guaranteed a T-shirt.
  • Where should I park?

    There will be ample parking available on campus. We recommend parking in the lot directly in front of the main entrance of the School.
  • What are the event start times?

    Saturday, October 12
    • 7:00-8:00 a.m. - Registration Open/Packet Pick-Up
    • 8:00 a.m. - 5K Run/Walk

    • 9:45 a.m. - Awards Ceremony
  • Is the Race at the Cape timed? When can I get my results?

    Yes. The 5K and One-Mile Fun Run/Walk races will be timed using chip timing. Results will be available online after the race.
  • Will awards be given?

    Of course! What is a race without a few awards!

    The following awards will be given for 5K participants:

    • Will there be water stops?

      Yes, there will be one water stop approximately at the 1.5-mile mark.
    • Are headphones (iPods, mp3 players, etc) allowed during the race?

      Headphones are allowed. Please be aware of your surroundings and other runners.
    • Will there be a sports drink and energy gels on the course?

      There will not be a sports drinks or energy gels on the course.
    • Are baby joggers or strollers allowed during the race?

      If you choose to run with a baby jogger, we ask that you start in the back of all runners. It is your responsibility to make sure the baby jogger does not impede other runners as well as you must take extra precaution as to your safety, your child’s safety and the safety of the runners around you. We reserve the right to pull any person from the race who is endangering other runners or themselves.
    • If I am unable to attend, can I get a refund or defer my registration?

      Unfortunately, we are not able to offer refunds or defer registrations to another year.
