The Cape Henry Fund (Annual Giving)One hundred percent of the money raised for the Cape Henry Fund goes directly into the current year’s operating budget. The Cape Henry Fund supports academics, technology, sports teams, music and arts programs, Nexus Global Studies, need-based tuition assistance, as well as special programs, visiting speakers, community service, and the day-to-day costs associated with running and maintaining our facilities and campus. The giving drive for the Cape Henry Fund begins in July of each year with letters and continues with brochures and phone calls in the fall to all Cape Henry constituents, concluding June 30. All school constituents are contacted each year to contribute to the Cape Henry Fund.
Capital Campaign
A capital campaign is an ongoing process of fundraising over a designated period of time for specific goals. The capital goals in recent years have been to construct The Sims Lower School, The Hirschbiel Center for the Arts, the Preston Scot Creech Fitness Center, and The Sparks Science and Technology Center. More recently, the Bridge to the Future campaign has supported enhancements to The Perry Library, and the McDonnell Family Entrance, and the cafeteria, and the addition of the Creech Family Stadium and a beautiful turf field on Trinder Field. Naming opportunities are available, and pledges made to the capital campaign may be spread over multi-year periods.
Planned Giving
Planned Giving is the organized effort to secure long term commitments through various forms of deferred gifts. Sound personal financial and estate planning concepts are used to help individual donors plan their gifts in the most tax-wise way. Such gifts may be unrestricted or restricted to a donor's area of interest. All Cape Henry constituents are eligible to make a planned gift.
Endowment
Endowment is a part of Planned Giving. Endowment funds are invested to produce income to supplement the school's operating costs or to support a purpose designated by the donor. In addition to the Cape Henry family, foundations and corporations are contacted to help build the School's endowment. Gifts may be either current or deferred gifts. The Bridge to the Future campaign raised gifts to endowment from donors who wish to help support the future of the School.
Grand Auction
The Grand Auction, held in the winter, is Cape Henry's major fundraising event of the year and features live and silent auctions, dinner, and entertainment. The monies raised go to support the general operating budget, which in turn supports every aspect of life at Cape Henry. During the live auction, we feature a "Raise the Paddle" project or initiative in which we ask guests to pledge their support. Raise the Paddle donations are specifically counted as part of the Cape Henry Fund because they are a 100% donation so they must be recorded separately from all other proceeds raisied from the event due to the fact that there are benefits involved, which include items won, and tickets or sponsorships purchased.
Scot Creech Classic Golf Tournament
The Scot Creech Classic Golf Tournament is held each year in the spring and provides essential support to our yearly operating budget. The event is typically held on the last Monday in April at the Cavalier Golf and Yacht Club. Sponsorships are available. All players receive a player gift and enjoy lunch, a dinner buffet, and an awards presentation.
