Soccer Shots
The pros from Soccer Shots return to Cape Henry after a fantastic winter session. This uniquely designed program introduces children to soccer in a fun, safe and controlled environment. Students will learn basic soccer skills, participate in fun games and enjoy healthy competition. Soccer Shots emphasizes character-forming lessons such as fair play, individual concentration, cooperation and encouragement.

Art Adventures
Do you have a love for art? Let’s unlock our imagination by creating beautiful nature-inspired pieces using paints, watercolors, pastels and many other fun materials.

Lower School Wrestling
Join our coaches as they teach and mentor each wrestler on how to elevate their performance and attitude to the highest levels. Girls Just Want to Have Fun
Calling all girls for strictly girl fun! We will do hair, paint nails, play games, and make bracelets. Ms. Elliott will style your hair with beautiful braids, twists, buns, flowers and ribbons. Freely express your creativity while crafting, coloring or painting. It will be like a mini sleepover each week. Gather your best girlfriends and sign up together to make it even more fun!

American Girl Doll
Do you love your doll and dream of playdates with friends? You and your new friends can create an imaginary world. Play school with your dolls, go camping, go to the pumpkin patch, work at the veterinarian's with stuffies and enjoy a tea party. Learn about history through the play of American Girl dolls. Learn to weave and do needlework with your new friends and dolls. Don't have an American Girl doll? Don't worry, any doll will do!

Paint-a-Palooza
Do you love to draw and paint? This program will cater to those who are interested in pushing their skills further, while creating paintings along with the instructor. (Think Bob Ross!) Learn a variety of painting techniques while you explore a range of paint media. Watercolor, tempera and acrylic will be used to create beautiful works that parents will want to frame.

SideKicks
SideKicks offers an exciting way for children to learn martial arts skills that will benefit them in more ways than one. Our program teaches the fundamentals of martial arts while encouraging the practice of positive behavior, mindfulness and self-discipline. Experienced instructors provide an encouraging and safe atmosphere where kids can have fun while increasing their confidence, focus, coordination and leadership skills.

Dodgeball
Join us for our ultra-popular program that includes several crazy fun versions of the game dodgeball! The emphasis is on fun, teamwork and exercise. This program helps develop agility, speed and good body awareness as well as powers of analysis and problem-solving skills. Participants will work on throwing, catching and ball-shielding skills in addition to dodging skills. Participants will use new coated, foam dodgeballs. These balls are perfect for safe, FUN play!

Lego Blast (Grades 1-3)
Students will be asked to take on the LEGO challenge, completing a variety of tasks and challenges. Students will have the opportunity to work together with friends and use their own imagination to build. The tasks are endless...a dream house, a knight's castle, a playground, an amusement park or maybe a Minecraft world.

Wiffle Ball
Hey, future MVPs! Get ready for eight weeks of wiffle ball madness after school in our amazing gym! Every week, we’ll mix things up with different game variations to keep the excitement going and make each day even more fun than the last. Whether you’re smashing home runs, making epic catches, or mastering new ways to play, something fresh and exciting is always waiting for you. Bring your energy, and let’s play the coolest game ever!

Chess
The HRCA afterschool chess program for first-time students is a complete eight-week chess fundamentals course that builds the foundation students need to be successful in chess. In addition to basic rules including special piece moves castling and en passant, students will learn piece values for calculations and when/what to trade, good opening principles, defense, and basic checkmate patterns. Depending on the level of the students, they may also cover some basic tactics such as forks, skewers, pins, and discovered attacks. Students can reinforce learning at home by completing their ChessKid levels up through a minimum of Queen 2. The program provides a competition focus and also teaches students to take chess notation, use a clock, all the ways a game can end in a draw, and all the rules and procedures of chess tournaments. Students are encouraged to attend HRCA weekend tournaments as a school chess team. Optional team t-shirts will be available for parents to purchase online.
The one time $25 registration fee includes a membership to Hampton Roads Chess Association good through August 31, 2025. Membership makes the student eligible for participation in the HRCA Scholastic Cup and other season awards, needs-based financial aid, and access to any discounted goods and services we may negotiate with vendors. The fee also includes a ChessKid Gold (full access) account good through September 11, 2025. These accounts are used for the student to continue to train and study chess at home on a kid-friendly, safe platform. These accounts retail for $60 a year. HRCA sends parents username and password for login.

Lower School Lego Robotics
Do you love building with LEGO? Curious about robotics, sensors, and coding?
Join our LEGO Robotics Enrichment Program! This after-school program is designed to boost your building and computational thinking skills in a fun, relaxed atmosphere.
Note: Students participating in this enrichment program should not be concurrently a member of CHC’s Junior Robotics Team. Get ready to build, code, and explore!

Rock-It Science: Springtime Labs
Spring is finally here so let’s get exploring! We will plant seeds, produce rainbow caterpillar reactions and explore insects. We will whip up a batch of springtime slime too! These are just a few labs we will conduct as we celebrate warmer days. Say goodbye to winter and hello to spring.

Dynamic Basketball
You have to do the drills to gain the skills. Varsity Boys Basketball Head Coach Mr. Mark Hall will balance skill development and fundamentals with games, contests and fun. Students will enjoy developing their ball handling, passing, shooting and defensive skills throughout this program.

Kickball
Lace up your sneakers for some exciting afterschool kickball action. This program is highly competitive and extremely fun. Participants will learn the basics of the game while fine-tuning their kicking, catching, throwing, fielding and kickball skills. Participants will play several fun variations of traditional kickball. As always, fair play, positive attitudes and teamwork are the central focus of this camp.

Future Flyers: Drones
Your entry into the world of drones! Learn how to fly a drone and improve your skills. Practice planning and flying search-and-rescue missions, parachute drops, medical deliveries and other fun flight activities. Build drone obstacle courses and large tower structures to inspect. Learn to take pictures and videos with a drone. Learn the rules of the sky and how drones are used in industry. Pass the FAA TRUST test on safety and regulations to be a recreational pilot.

Lego Blast (Prekindergarten)
PK Lego Blast: Students will have the opportunity to stretch their imaginations and enjoy follow-along LEGO challenges independently and with their friends. As a bonus, students will also get to explore invitations to play with Magna-Tile sets! There will be mazes, simple 3-D structures and free build opportunities!

Art Explosion
Do you have an interest in the visual arts, and look forward to trying new things? The Art Explosion class offers the opportunities to try techniques and media not often offered in your regular art classes! This program will have you using DSLR cameras while painting with light, using professional style airbrush techniques, casting in clay, using special painting techniques and much more! Pokémon Fun
Children will immerse themselves in the captivating world of Pokémon. They will have the opportunity to bring their own Pokémon toys and trading cards, allowing them to showcase their favorite Pokémon and engage in thrilling battles and trades with fellow campers. Children will also have the chance to unleash their creativity by drawing and coloring their favorite Pokémon. Young Pokémon trainers can bond, learn and have an incredible time exploring the captivating world of Pokémon together.

Beginner Lacrosse
Learn to play or develop your stick skills in the fastest game on two feet–lacrosse. Join Cape Henry’s lacrosse coaches to learn to enjoy the game through our teaching of fundamentals and enjoyment of the game through small-sided play. New and experienced players are welcome.

Lower School Flag Football
It is football time again at Cape Henry! Mr. V will teach the fundamentals of catching, passing, blocking, deflagging, defensive positioning, punting and kicking. Participants will also have the opportunity to play in skills competitions and scrimmages. Throw on your jersey and grab your flags, because it is football time!

Introduction to Line Dancing
In this fun and energetic course, children will learn easy and exciting dance steps to popular songs. No experience is needed—just come ready to move, groove, and have a blast! By the end of the class, students will be ready to show off their new moves to friends and family.
