Afterschool Enrichment Program
We are excited to offer the students of Cape Henry Collegiate Lower School a variety of wonderful programs ranging from athletics to chess to engineering.
Programs
Winter 2023
All programs begin the week of January 2. All times are 3:30 - 4:30 p.m. unless otherwise noted. All participants will be picked up from the Café Dolphin unless otherwise noted.
Monday Offerings
Seven Sessions:

Soccer Shots
The pros from Soccer Shots return to Cape Henry after a fantastic fall session. This uniquely designed program introduces children to soccer in a fun, safe and controlled environment. Students will learn basic soccer skills, participate in fun games and enjoy healthy competition. Soccer Shots emphasizes character-forming lessons such as fair play, individual concentration, cooperation and encouragement. Space is limited. Sign up early!

Chess
Here are five reasons why you should be playing this 1,500-year-old game of strategy and logic:
- Playing chess improves concentration and memory.
- It enhances reading and math skills.

Girls Just Want to Have Fun
Calling all girls for strictly girl fun! We will do hair, paint nails, play games and make bracelets. Ms. Elliott will style your hair with beautiful braids, twists, buns, flowers and ribbons. Freely express your creativity while crafting, coloring or painting. It will be like a mini sleepover each week. So, gather your best girlfriends and sign up together to make it even more fun!

Art Adventures: Winter Wonderland
Do you love winter? Join Ms. Buchardt to explore all aspects of a magical winter wonderland through various art activities. There is something for everyone, from clay to paint!

Wednesday Offerings

Seasonal Ceramics
Students will envelope themselves in the world of clay while learning the techniques and tools commonly used in ceramics. Participants will create works inspired by the fall and winter seasons, and their favorite holidays. Using a variety of methods including hand-building, modeling, extrusions, slab building, press molding and glazing. Each student will have several pieces to take home and display proudly!

LEGO Blast
Students will be asked to take on the LEGO challenge of completing a variety of tasks and challenges. Students will have the opportunity to work together, collaborate with friends and use their own imagination to build. The tasks are endless...a dream house, a knight's castle, a playground, an amusement park or maybe a minecraft world!

Rock-It Science: Winter Wonderland
Science is super cool, but even more so in the winter. We will find out how penguins stay dry, mix up some fake snow, go ice fishing and more! So put up your winter gear and get ready to stay warm inside as we explore super cool winter labs. Join Miss Tammy and Mr. Cory, and let's get exploring!

Kickball
Lace up your sneakers and join Mr. V for some exciting afterschool kickball action. This program is highly competitive and extremely fun. Participants will learn the basics of the game while fine-tuning their kicking, catching, throwing, fielding and kickball skills. Participants will play several fun variations of traditional kickball. As always, fair play, positive attitudes and teamwork are the central focus of this camp.

Friday Offerings

Tennis
Want to learn a sport that you can play forever? Do you already know how to play and want to fine-tune your strokes, work on strategy and get in some extra practice? If the answer is yes, join Mrs. Harrison on the courts. This program is open to students of all skill levels, from beginner to experienced and will include a mix of fun and engaging drills, games and conditioning. All players are required to wear athletic shoes. Please contact Mrs. Harrison if you need to borrow a racquet.

Lower School Flag Football (Ages 6 and up)
It is football time again at Cape Henry! Staff will lead flag football, teaching the fundamentals of catching, passing, blocking, deflagging, defensive positioning, punting and kicking. Participants will also have the opportunity to play in skills competitions and scrimmages. Throw on your jersey and grab your flags, because it is football time!

Holiday 2022
All programs are two days per week from 3:30-4:30 p.m., beginning the week of November 28. Parents and guardians may pick up participants from Café Dolphin.
Rock-It Science: 'Tis the Season
Mondays and Tuesdays:

It’s time to celebrate the holiday season and explore all things science! Learn all about density and buoyancy as we build rafts for Rudolph, mix up a chemical reaction to make the Grinch’s heart grow, and produce cookie cutter eruptions! No worries we will mix up a batch of everyone's favorite slime too, holiday style. My Treasure Chest of Science will make an appearance each week! ‘Tis the season to celebrate!

- If your camper shows “Waitlisted,” you will receive a prompt should the space become available.
