Giving Opportunities

Giving to a not-for-profit organization not only benefits the institution, but also provides significant benefits to the donor. There are many methods of giving to Cape Henry Collegiate School. Outright gifts of cash are fully tax deductible and provide the most convenient form of giving. Gifts of securities, real estate, and assets also provide tax savings to the donor and are extremely beneficial to the School.

What follows is a brief explanation of various giving opportunities. Donors should review their desires and personal needs and carefully select the most advantageous giving plan for their situation.

Ways to Give

List of 6 items.

  • Annual Giving

A tax-deductible gift to the Annual Fund is one of the most important ways to give because it directly supports Cape Henry students. These unrestricted dollars are used for computers, software, library books, team uniforms, musical instruments, financial aid, faculty professional development, and more. Cape Henry depends on Annual Fund participation from the entire school community, including current parents, past parents, grandparents, alumni, and friends. The School needs and appreciates gifts of every size.
  • Capital Campaign

The most common goal of a capital campaign is for the purchase, construction, or renovation of a building (commonly referred to as "bricks and mortar"). Past school campaigns have provided the funding to construct Founders Hall, the Alfred T. Taylor Field House, The Perry Library, The Perry Family Auditorium, The Fain Atrium, The Hirschbiel Center for the Arts, The Sims Lower School, and the Preston Scot Creech Fitness Center. Most recently, the Voyage to Excellence Campaign provided the funding to build the 40,000 square foot, state-of-the-art Sparks Science and Technology Center. Campaigns offer many levels of participation, and current parents, grandparents, alumni, and special friends all join in the fundraising effort.
  • Planned Giving

Planned Giving is the organized effort to secure long-term commitments through various forms of deferred gifts. Sound personal financial and estate planning concepts are used to help individual donors plan their gifts in the most tax-wise way. Such gifts may be unrestricted or restricted to a donor's field of interest. All Cape Henry constituents are eligible to make a planned gift.
  • Endowment

Endowment funds are invested to produce income to supplement the institution's operating costs. Donors may choose to support a particular area of the School's operating budget, academic or otherwise. In addition to the Cape Henry community, foundations and corporations are contacted to help build the School's endowment. Gifts may be either current or deferred gifts.
  • CHCS Golf Tournament

The Cape Henry Collegiate School Golf Tournament is held each year in the spring. The collection of donated prizes and solicitation for sponsors and underwriters begins early in the fall. The monies raised go to support every aspect of life at Cape Henry.
  • Grand Auction Gala

The Grand Auction Gala, traditionally held in the winter, is Cape Henry’s major social fundraiser for the year. The acquisition of items for the live and silent auctions, sale of program advertisements, and solicitation of underwriters begin early in the school year. The monies raised go to support all aspects of life at Cape Henry.
