• Before and After Care Programs (June 3 - August 9)

  This program is a service provided for parents who require extended care for children, rising Prekindergarten through Grade 5, before and after regular Summer Program hours. The exceptional staff plans outdoor play, craft projects, and much more each day. Before and After Care is available for the duration of our Summer at the Cape schedule, beginning on Monday, June 3 and ending on Friday, August 9. An afternoon snack is provided for the campers. All children must be toilet trained. Before-Camp care will begin at 7:30 am and conclude at the start of camp at 9:00 am, where our staff will direct campers to the correct camps. After-Camp Care will begin at 3:30 pm and conclude at 5:30 pm. A late fee of $30 will be charged every ten (10) minutes past 5:30 pm.

• Day Camp: Little Dolphins, Sandfiddlers, Dolphins, Sharks (June 3 - August 9)

  Looking for an exciting summer experience? Join our summer day camps to experience endless fun and engagement. Spend your summer playing on Cape Henry’s state-of-the-art playground. Reacquaint yourself with friends from the past or meet new friends as you continue to grow and develop. Our Summer at the Cape Day Camps focuses on fun while also bridging the learning gap between school years. No matter your age, your days will be filled with everything from academic engagement to swim lessons, craft making to sports and games, science experiments to fun-filled field trips, and much more. All Day Camps are led by full-time teachers at Cape Henry Collegiate or teachers from Virginia Beach City Public Schools. Each teacher has multiple years of experience within our school community. All full-day campers receive a full-service, well-balanced lunch from the newly renovated Café Dolphin, and all full- and half-day campers receive a mid-morning and mid-afternoon snack and drink. Our Summer at the Cape Day Camps are licensed by the Virginia Department of Social Services.

  Summer Learning. Day campers spend time each day on specific weekly themes, digging into age-appropriate topics like America’s National Parks, the Natural Wonders of the World, Disney and Star Wars, outdoor adventure and camping, Dr. Seuss, and more. Twice a week campers will immerse themselves in Cape Henry’s science labs, working on experiments and exercises to learn and test the theme of the week. In addition to these wonderful and creative topics, students will spend time with age-appropriate reading, writing, and math while having the opportunity to work on summer academic assignments for the upcoming school year.
  
  

  Exercise and Fun. Campers take part in daily free play and structured activities within all of Cape Henry’s fantastic facilities. Cape Henry boasts a spacious, air-conditioned field house with P.E. equipment and supplies for every game and activity. A turf field and multiple grass athletic fields host countless outdoor games, and a state-of-the-art playground caters to the imagination of all age groups.
  
  

  Swimming. Partnered with Virginia Beach Parks and Recreation, Day Camp groups travel via bus to the Great Neck Recreation Center (Dolphins and Sharks) and to Seatack Recreation Center (Little Dolphins and Sandfiddlers) twice a week for age-appropriate swim lessons. Lessons are taught by American Red Cross certified swim instructors while supervised by American Red Cross certified lifeguards. The swim curriculum is developed and taught by the aquatic staff of Virginia Beach Parks and Recreation. Campers travel to and from swim lessons with their lead teachers, and their lead teachers remain poolside throughout each swim lesson.
  
  

  Field Trips. Campers take part in a unique field trip every week of the summer. Join us as we go bowling at Pinboy’s, visit the Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center, jump around at the indoor Bounce House facility, travel to our local state parks, enjoy a hike in the Norfolk Botanical Gardens, and more. These fun-filled experiences take the campers off campus to some of the area’s most desirable locations. Day Camp teachers and staff members accompany the students on these fully supervised trips.

  Do you love your doll and spend time dreaming of new ways to style and accessorize? Do you and your friends dream up new worlds with your dolls, creating tea parties, going to the beach, or catching the great new movie in the theaters? If so, this camp is for you. Make accessories, read stories, and learn all about the history of American Girl dolls. In this camp, you will design and build your own dollhouse using boxes and reclaimed materials, and you will find new, inventive ways to make accessories and enhance your doll’s fashion.   Absolute pin, battery, checkmate, dead draw, en passant? Confused? Don’t be! Learn the game of kings in a fun and relaxing environment. Chess is renowned for improving creativity, the power of concentration, critical thinking skills, memory and retention, and overall academic performance. Chess has also been shown to augment problem-solving capabilities, provide cultural enrichment, advance intellectual maturity, and enhance self-esteem. Not to mention, chess is fun!

  This one-week summer Dance Intensive runs for three hours, five days a week. Each day camp consists of one hour of Ballet Barre or Lyrical/Contemporary, one hour of jazz, and 45 minutes of choreography. Dance Intensive is intended for those who are strongly driven to excel in dance and wish to improve their technical skills, muscle strength, and power.   Join us for our ultra-popular program that includes several crazy, fun versions of the game dodgeball! The emphasis is on fun, teamwork, and exercise. This camp helps develop agility, speed, and good body awareness as well as powers of analysis and problem-solving skills. Campers will work on throwing, catching, and ball-shielding skills in addition to dodging skills, all while using new-coated foam dodgeballs. These balls are perfect for safe, FUN play! We supply all the equipment. Wear gym shoes and bring a snack and a water bottle.

  Lacrosse is the fastest growing sport in the country at the youth and high school levels; don’t miss out on the action-packed fun the sport offers. The camp is run by Cape Henry Varsity Boys Lacrosse Head Coach and former UVA Men’s Lacrosse Midfielder, Mr. Joe Thompson, along with current and former CHC players, all of whom have a passion for the game. Our philosophy is that to love the game, you must respect your competition and have fun playing, and that is what we strive for every day. The focus of the camp is to learn fundamental skills while enjoying the excitement of the game and to benefit from the camaraderie and lessons that lacrosse offers. Beginner and experienced campers will enjoy skill-building sessions, counselor demonstrations, and the opportunity to test their skills in numerous game-like scenarios. All players are required to wear full lacrosse equipment (helmet, shoulder pads, elbow pads, gloves, and lacrosse stick).

  The Cape Henry Collegiate Tennis program is excited to offer the Dolphin Tennis Academy with PTR-certified Head Coach Diane Deaton. During the tennis sessions, beginner and novice campers will learn the proper way to hold and swing a racquet, as well as basic ball drills and games. Advanced tennis players will work on strategy, court positioning, and shot selection, and they will be matched up with camp staff who are current or former high school or college players. Campers will enjoy individual and small-group lessons as they build upon the initial success and develop a lifelong love of tennis! Campers will participate daily in light ball drills and supervised match play, and all levels of play are invited. *CHC will utilize First Colonial Courts while Cape Henry courts are replaced*

• Dolphin Wrestling Camps: Elite Wrestling (July 15 - 19)

  Cape Henry Collegiate wrestling is excited to offer two unique, five-day wrestling camps. The camps will be held in the spacious, air-conditioned Clarke Family Wrestling Room. CHC wrestling camps are founded on a developmental and competitive approach that centers on technique, competition, and games. Head Coach Jack Effner is committed to the total development of each camper. Campers will not only learn how to wrestle, but they will also have fun and be challenged to improve.

   

  Elite Wrestling Camp
  The Elite Wrestling Camp is geared towards Middle and Upper School wrestlers who wish to challenge themselves to be winners at the High School level. • Drobots: Drone Escape and Rescue (July 15 - 19)

  Drone Escape and Rescue is a necessity for first responders around the world, adding a new layer of solutions to save lives across the globe. Now campers to can take part in and learn from simulated missions during this action-packed, creative, and educational program. Participants will learn to fly drones and rely on their rescue team to collect vital data in specific “rescue areas” to locate “victims” and safely rescue them. We use age-appropriate and cutting-edge technology methods available for creating plans, missions, and maps. Participants will also learn invaluable lessons on how to simply, quickly and accurately make informed and targeted suggestions for positive real-world applications.

• Lower School Summer Academic Workshop I (July 8 - 19)

  Get prepared for the new school year by diving into reading/writing and mathematics. The “Reading/Writing Workshop” helps students become power readers and writers, increasing their phonetic skills, comprehension strategies, and writing abilities. Students respond to reading through a variety of creative channels including verbal, written, and hands-on activities. Diverse reading selections from the CHC Summer Reading Lists and other literary choices ensure an enjoyable and stimulating reading performance. In addition, teachers provide instruction on organizing and writing paragraphs, proofreading, and editing written work, and the reinforcement of grammar and punctuation rules. Students choose topics of their own interest and imagination to enjoy creative and expressive writing. The “Math Workshop” uses a multi-sensory, hands-on approach, making math all add up to fun. Students learn math concepts and problem-solving skills with meaningful connections that illustrate the value of mathematics to their world. The instruction and reinforcement of activities will concentrate on preparing students for the rigors of the mathematics curriculum for the coming year. The students split their time between the two blocks on a daily basis and will have the opportunity to work on their required summer reading, writing, and math assignments.

• Magic Camp II (July 15 - 19)

  Abracadabra, Alakazam, hocus pocus! Sit back and enjoy the magical transformation as campers become magicians right before your very eyes! Campers learn amazing magic tricks they can perform for family and friends. Award-winning professional magician Mr. Rob Westcott teaches young magicians various skills and helps them to build self-confidence in a fun and supportive environment. Each child receives a magic case to decorate and fill with a magic wand and tricks they learn throughout the week. On the last day of camp, join us for a magic show where the children perform the magic they have learned! Students who have taken Magic Camp before are also welcomed back.   Every child wants a pet! Whether or not you already have your own, this half-day program is about learning to love and give lots of proper care to a variety of pets. This is the class for kids who love animals. Campers will use rovers, bots, drones, and other autonomous creative technology to jump over obstacles, push down walls, lift up boulders, toss energy balls, and navigate through mazes. Teams of campers work together indoors, outdoors and in open-spaced “arenas” throughout the week, utilizing life skills such as design and systems thinking, collaborative problem solving, curiosity, mindfulness, and imagination to outwit, out-build, and out-smart one another as well as the program instructor, The Wizard. Use your resources wisely to defend the kingdom and lead your clan to victory!

• Upper School Health: Online ( June 24 - July 19)

  This program is focused on exploring the many facets of leading a fulfilling, healthy, and productive lifestyle. At this exciting, intense, and difficult stage of life, we will learn and discuss serious social, emotional, physical and societal concerns. Topics include illegal substances, growth, and development, physical activity, nutrition, preventing violence and abuse, and mental and emotional development. Students will also complete the American Heart Association’s curriculum for cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Classroom Health sessions run from 8:00 a.m. - noon on Monday through Friday of each week, and office hours are available from noon - 1:00 p.m. for extra help.
