Would you like to become a certified babysitter? An instructor from CPR Anywhere! will instruct boys and girls ages 9 to 14 in the skills of being a confident sitter. This three-day camp will instruct campers in childcare skills, including feeding and bathing a baby, changing a diaper, infant and child CPR, basic first aid, talking to potential clients, and much more. In the end, you will be awarded a certificate and card that you can show to prove you are a certified babysitter! Maximum of 15 campers at each session–so sign up early!

This one-week summer Dance Intensive runs for three hours, five days a week. Each day camp consists of one hour of Ballet Barre or Lyrical/Contemporary, one hour of jazz, and 45 minutes of choreography. Coaches will focus on fundamentals and small number situations, add some full field games and mix in plenty of fun. Campers will be grouped based on age and ability. Cape Henry’s state-of-the-art turf complex provides a true playing surface for field hockey. No tall grass or mud puddles. Plenty of air-conditioned indoor space means that camp will never be rained out or shortened due to high heat index or poor air quality. The air-conditioned gymnasium provides an opportunity for campers to learn the indoor game as well as the outdoor game–it’s like two camps in one! Recently, Camp Director, Mrs. Kate Barber Kinnear, completed her first season as Cape Henry’s Varsity Head Coach. In her first season, she led her team to a State Tournament Championship, earned TCIS Tournament Championship, and TCIS Coach of the Year honors. The Cape Henry Girls Lacrosse program looks forward to hosting a fun-filled week of camp that will suit the development of beginners through elite level players. CHC lacrosse staff and players will instruct on the basic fundamentals of the game to meet each athlete at her ability level. Basic fundamentals will be put to use in small-sided competitions, full field games, and other skill-building activities. The Cape Henry Collegiate Tennis program is excited to offer the Dolphin Tennis Academy with PTR-certified Head Coach Diane Deaton. During the tennis sessions, beginner and novice campers will learn the proper way to hold and swing a racquet, as well as basic ball drills and games. Advanced tennis players will work on strategy, court positioning, and shot selection, and they will be matched up with camp staff who are current or former high school or college players. Campers will enjoy individual and small-group lessons as they build upon the initial success and develop a lifelong love of tennis! Youth Wrestling Camp The Youth Camp will feature CHC Coaches Jack Effner and Joe Harvich along with Coaches Dalton Head, Geoff Head, and Will Stravino. This program is geared towards Lower to Middle School aged campers. Wrestlers will learn the basics through skill training and practice sessions. Young photographers become dynamic designers with the medium of light as they explore black-and-white darkroom photography as well as digital SLR photography. This class will cover composition, pinhole and SLR cameras, shooting and processing 35mm film, enlarging prints, burning and dodging, photograms, solarizing, toning, hand-coloring, digital manipulation, and photo presentation. Parents should attempt to locate an old SLR or point-and-shoot film camera with a good battery. If there isn’t a film camera already in the family, please don’t purchase one. Some cameras can be provided by the class, so contact Mr. Warden if one is needed.

Students will learn the fundamentals of digital photography and computer-aided manipulation. This class will cover various modes of shooting found on most digital SLR cameras: exposure control, composition, motion and portrait photography, downloading, printing, Photoshop manipulation, and photo presentation. Students should provide their own digital SLR camera with a charged battery. A small number of cameras can be provided by the class; please contact Mr. Warden as soon as possible if one is needed.

Oil paint is a beautiful and versatile medium. A painting foundation will be presented that can easily be built upon for pursuits beyond this class. Students will create a series of paintings with the instructor that will cover a variety of subjects and painting techniques. Drawing will be taught as it applies to the subjects illustrated. Students will work from life when we take a trip outdoors to paint, and they will learn ways to look within themselves for inspiration in more intuitive painting exercises. *A list of supplies for the camp will be sent out prior to the camp’s start date.

The longest running and most enjoyable coed soccer camp in Virginia Beach returns for its 29th year of camp instruction. We take great pride in offering the best soccer camp experience in Hampton Roads. Our facilities include four plush green soccer fields, six air-conditioned courts for indoor soccer, an air-conditioned auditorium with a large-screen projection for rest and film sessions, and a spacious cafeteria serving hot lunch daily. Our camp staff is comprised of highly trained professional, college, and high school players and coaches who are positive role models and understand our camp philosophy of learning the game of soccer in a clean, safe, and enjoyable atmosphere. Our staff prides itself on creating positive and long-lasting relationships with campers and parents. From the beginning player to the advanced player, the curriculum is designed to teach skills and strategies used at the individual and team levels. This program is focused on exploring the many facets of leading a fulfilling, healthy, and productive lifestyle. At this exciting, intense, and difficult stage of life, we will learn and discuss serious social, emotional, physical and societal concerns. Topics include illegal substances, growth, and development, physical activity, nutrition, preventing violence and abuse, and mental and emotional development. Students will also complete the American Heart Association’s curriculum for cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Classroom Health sessions run from 8:00 a.m. - noon on Monday through Friday of each week, and office hours are available from noon - 1:00 p.m. for extra help.

The Volleyball Camp covers all aspects of the game of volleyball with an emphasis on fundamentals and game situation play. The camp welcomes players of all ability levels, from beginner to experienced, and players will be grouped by skill to better meet the individual needs of each participant. The technique and skills taught in this camp are designed to provide and improve upon the foundation that allows participants to develop into high-level athletes in the future. All basic skills will be covered including passing, setting, hitting, serving, defense, blocking, and offensive and defensive systems. Campers will also have the opportunity to dig deep and work hard in a positive and encouraging environment.
