Would you like to become a certified babysitter? An instructor from CPR Anywhere! will instruct boys and girls ages 9 to 14 in the skills of being a confident sitter. This three-day camp will instruct campers in childcare skills, including feeding and bathing a baby, changing a diaper, infant and child CPR, basic first aid, talking to potential clients, and much more. This one-week summer Dance Intensive runs for three hours, five days a week. Each day camp consists of one hour of ballet, one hour of jazz (contemporary or modern) and 45 minutes of choreography. Join us for our ultra-popular program that includes several crazy, fun versions of the game dodgeball! The emphasis is on fun, teamwork, and exercise. This camp helps develop agility, speed, and good body awareness as well as powers of analysis and problem-solving skills. Campers will work on throwing, catching, and ball-shielding skills in addition to dodging skills, all while using new-coated foam dodgeballs. These balls are perfect for safe, FUN play! The CHC Hitting Camp will cover all the bases from approach and sound mechanics to pitch selection and situational hitting. Campers will learn there is more to being a quality hitter than just having a good swing. The staff will break down every aspect of being an effective offensive player. Coaches will focus on fundamentals and small number situations, add some full field games and mix in plenty of fun. Campers will be grouped based on age and ability. Cape Henry’s state-of-the-art turf complex provides a true playing surface for field hockey. No tall grass or mud puddles. Plenty of air-conditioned indoor space means that camp will never be rained out or shortened due to high heat index or poor air quality. The air-conditioned gymnasium provides an opportunity for campers to learn the indoor game as well as the outdoor game–it’s like two camps in one! Recently, Camp Director, Mrs. Kristen Wheeler, completed her 15th season as Cape Henry’s Varsity Head Coach. During her tenure she led her teams to 15 consecutive state tournament appearances, captured five State Championship Titles, earned four TCIS Coach of the Year honors, three TCIS Championship Titles, and two TCIS Regular Season Titles. The Cape Henry Collegiate Tennis program is excited to offer the Dolphin Tennis Academy with PTR-certified Head Coach Diane Deaton. During the tennis sessions, beginner and novice campers will learn the proper way to hold and swing a racquet, as well as basic ball drills and games. Advanced tennis players will work on strategy, court positioning, and shot selection, and they will be matched up with camp staff who are current or former high school or college players. It’s all about drone missions as campers will learn the basics of drone technology and safety before taking to the air to fly and code the drones through an abundance of missions. Throughout the week, Instructors will pose various challenges that the campers must solve using drones. Missions include: Connect 4, Drone Basketball, King Kong, International Space Station Drone Docking, Harry The Hiker, and more. Students work all week long to prepare for the most enjoyable part of the week: the Ultimate Drone Games where students collaborate, strategize, and create their own drone missions and then compete against one another. Participants will use the SWIFT programming language to accomplish many of these missions. All campers go home with interactive workbooks and plenty of Drobots Company keepsakes and trinkets so the memories last long beyond the summer. Drone safety and the social responsibilities of flying drones are emphasized in this program. Drobots will provide all equipment for this camp.
Drone Racing is filled with pure action as students enjoy one of the world’s fastest growing sports, drone racing. Campers will first learn about the basic safety of drone flying and the history behind drone racing as a sport. From there, campers will progress through various skill challenges and learn how to perform various exercises and maneuvers to become familiar with the drone’s speed and agility. Flight squads post up against one another in friendly competition when they race themselves and the clock. Students first maneuver the drone through creative obstacle courses before taking on the challenge of flying for speed. Participants contribute fully in this program as they create the design and help build the the obstacle course in preparation for the last day’s final activities and competition.. Get prepared for the new school year by diving into reading/writing and mathematics. The “Reading/Writing Workshop” helps students become power readers and writers, increasing their phonetic skills, comprehension strategies, and writing abilities. Students respond to reading through a variety of creative channels including verbal, written, and hands-on activities. Diverse reading selections from the CHC Summer Reading Lists and other literary choices ensure an enjoyable and stimulating reading performance. Students choose topics of their own interest and imagination to enjoy creative and expressive writing. The “Math Workshop” teaches students math concepts and problem-solving skills with meaningful connections that illustrate the value of mathematics to their world. The instruction and reinforcement of activities concentrate on preparing students for the rigors of the mathematics curriculum for the coming year. The students split their time between the two blocks on a daily basis and will have the opportunity to work on their required summer reading, writing, and math assignments.
The Volleyball Camp covers all aspects of the game of volleyball with an emphasis on fundamentals and game situation play. The camp welcomes players of all ability levels, from beginner to experienced, and players will be grouped by skill to better meet the individual needs of each participant. The technique and skills taught in this camp are designed to provide and improve upon the foundation that allows participants to develop into high-level athletes in the future. All basic skills will be covered including passing, setting, hitting, serving, defense, blocking, and offensive and defensive systems. Young photographers become dynamic designers with the medium of light as they explore black-and-white darkroom photography as well as digital SLR photography. This class will cover composition, pinhole and SLR cameras, shooting and processing 35mm film, enlarging prints, burning and dodging, photograms, solarizing, toning, hand-coloring, digital manipulation, and photo presentation. Parents should attempt to locate an old SLR or point-and-shoot film camera with a good battery. If there isn’t a film camera already in the family, please don’t purchase one. Students will learn the fundamentals of digital photography and computer-aided manipulation. This class will cover various modes of shooting found on most digital SLR cameras: exposure control, composition, motion and portrait photography, downloading, printing, Photoshop manipulation, and photo presentation. Oil paint is a beautiful and versatile medium. A painting foundation will be presented that can easily be built upon for pursuits beyond this class. Students will create a series of paintings with the instructor that will cover a variety of subjects and painting techniques. Drawing will be taught as it applies to the subjects illustrated. We take great pride in offering the best soccer camp experience in Hampton Roads. Our facilities include four plush green soccer fields, six air-conditioned courts for indoor soccer, an air-conditioned auditorium with large-screen projection for rest and film sessions, and a spacious cafeteria serving hot lunch daily.
