Would you like to become a certified babysitter? An instructor from CPR Anywhere! will instruct boys and girls ages 9 to 14 in the skills of being a confident sitter. This three-day camp will instruct campers in childcare skills, including feeding and bathing a baby, changing a diaper, infant and child CPR, basic first aid, talking to potential clients, and much more. Community and Leadership Workshop is a unique opportunity for students to learn how to develop their business skills while impacting the world around them. Join us for our ultra-popular program that includes several crazy, fun versions of the game dodgeball! The emphasis is on fun, teamwork, and exercise. This camp helps develop agility, speed, and good body awareness as well as powers of analysis and problem-solving skills. Campers will work on throwing, catching, and ball-shielding skills in addition to dodging skills, all while using new-coated foam dodgeballs. These balls are perfect for safe, FUN play! We supply all the equipment. Wear gym shoes and bring a snack and a water bottle.
Coaches will focus on fundamentals and small number situations, add some full field games and mix in plenty of fun. Campers will be grouped based on age and ability. Cape Henry’s state-of-the-art turf complex provides a true playing surface for field hockey. No tall grass or mud puddles. Plenty of air-conditioned indoor space means that camp will never be rained out or shortened due to high heat index or poor air quality. The air-conditioned gymnasium provides an opportunity for campers to learn the indoor game as well as the outdoor game–it’s like two camps in one! Recently, Camp Director, Mrs. Kate Barber Kinnear, completed her first season as Cape Henry’s Varsity Head Coach. In her first season, she led her team to a State Tournament Championship, earned TCIS Tournament Championship, and TCIS Coach of the Year honors. Lacrosse is the fastest growing sport in the country at the youth and high school levels; don’t miss out on the action-packed fun the sport offers. The camp is run by Cape Henry Varsity Boys Lacrosse Head Coach and former UVA Men’s Lacrosse Midfielder, Mr. Joe Thompson, along with current and former CHC players, all of whom have a passion for the game. Our philosophy is that to love the game, you must respect your competition and have fun playing, and that is what we strive for every day. The focus of the camp is to learn fundamental skills while enjoying the excitement of the game and to benefit from the camaraderie and lessons that lacrosse offers. Beginner and experienced campers will enjoy skill-building sessions, counselor demonstrations, and the opportunity to test their skills in numerous game-like scenarios. The Cape Henry Girls Lacrosse program looks forward to hosting a fun-filled week of camp that will suit the development of beginners through elite level players. The Cape Henry Collegiate Tennis program is excited to offer the Dolphin Tennis Academy with PTR-certified Head Coach Diane Deaton. During the tennis sessions, beginner and novice campers will learn the proper way to hold and swing a racquet, as well as basic ball drills and games. Advanced tennis players will work on strategy, court positioning, and shot selection, and they will be matched up with camp staff who are current or former high school or college players. Campers will enjoy individual and small-group lessons as they build upon the initial success and develop a lifelong love of tennis! Drone Escape and Rescue is a necessity for first responders around the world, adding a new layer of solutions to save lives across the globe. Now campers to can take part in and learn from simulated missions during this action-packed, creative, and educational program. Participants will learn to fly drones and rely on their rescue team to collect vital data in specific “rescue areas” to locate “victims” and safely rescue them. We use age-appropriate and cutting-edge technology methods available for creating plans, missions, and maps. Participants will also learn invaluable lessons on how to simply, quickly and accurately make informed and targeted suggestions for positive real-world applications.
Drone Racing is filled with pure action as students enjoy one of the world’s fastest growing sports, Drone Racing. Campers will first learn about the basic safety of drone flying and the history behind drone racing as a sport. From there, campers will progress through various skill challenges and learn how to perform various exercises and maneuvers to become familiar with the drone’s speed and agility. Flight squads post up against one another in a friendly competition when they race themselves and the clock. Students first maneuver the drone through creative obstacle courses before taking on the challenge of flying for speed. Participants contribute fully in this program as they create the design and help build the obstacle course in preparation for the last day’s final activities and competition. All campers go home with interactive workbooks and plenty of Drobots Company keepsakes and trinkets, so the memories last long beyond the summer. Drone safety and social responsibilities of flying are included in this program.

If you love to write stories or poetry, join our weekly group for creative writing activities and challenges. Middle School writers will explore various prompts - fiction, description, opinion, and photo - and experiment with different styles of writing. During our last session, participants will be encouraged to display their best creative writing on the Middle School hallway bulletin board. Additionally, students will select pieces to share with the Cape Henry Community through a digital link in the Dolphin Digest. Get prepared for the new school year by diving into reading/writing and mathematics. The “Reading/Writing Workshop” helps students become power readers and writers, increasing their phonetic skills, comprehension strategies, and writing abilities. Students respond to reading through a variety of creative channels including verbal, written, and hands-on activities. Diverse reading selections from the CHC Summer Reading Lists and other literary choices ensure an enjoyable and stimulating reading performance. Students choose topics of their own interest and imagination to enjoy creative and expressive writing. The “Math Workshop” teaches students math concepts and problem-solving skills with meaningful connections that illustrate the value of mathematics to their world. The instruction and reinforcement of activities concentrate on preparing students for the rigors of the mathematics curriculum for the coming year. The students split their time between the two blocks on a daily basis and will have the opportunity to work on their required summer reading, writing, and math assignments.

Young photographers become dynamic designers with the medium of light as they explore black-and-white darkroom photography as well as digital SLR photography. This class will cover composition, pinhole and SLR cameras, shooting and processing 35mm film, enlarging prints, burning and dodging, photograms, solarizing, toning, hand-coloring, digital manipulation, and photo presentation. Parents should attempt to locate an old SLR or point-and-shoot film camera with a good battery. If there isn’t a film camera already in the family, please don’t purchase one. Students will learn the fundamentals of digital photography and computer-aided manipulation. This class will cover various modes of shooting found on most digital SLR cameras: exposure control, composition, motion and portrait photography, downloading, printing, Photoshop manipulation, and photo presentation. Oil paint is a beautiful and versatile medium. A painting foundation will be presented that can easily be built upon for pursuits beyond this class. Students will create a series of paintings with the instructor that will cover a variety of subjects and painting techniques. Drawing will be taught as it applies to the subjects illustrated. The longest running and most enjoyable coed soccer camp in Virginia Beach returns for its 29th year of camp instruction. We take great pride in offering the best soccer camp experience in Hampton Roads. Our facilities include four plush green soccer fields, six air-conditioned courts for indoor soccer, an air-conditioned auditorium with a large-screen projection for rest and film sessions, and a spacious cafeteria serving hot lunch daily. INDOOR-OUTDOOR SOCCER CAMP (BOYS AND GIRLS) *New in 2019: Spend the morning session training. Enjoy lunch and a film session, then head into the gymnasium for an afternoon indoor training session. THen head outdoors playing on the top of the line grass field and head indoors for the afternoon futsal competitions.
This two-week program will strengthen the skills of the actor. We will focus on age-appropriate scene work, guided improvisation, voice projection, singing, and dancing. This invigorating camp will help performers fine-tune their confidence, talent, and creativity. On the last day, students will perform before an audience.
The Volleyball Camp covers all aspects of the game of volleyball with an emphasis on fundamentals and game situation play. The camp welcomes players of all ability levels, from beginner to experienced, and players will be grouped by skill to better meet the individual needs of each participant. The technique and skills taught in this camp are designed to provide and improve upon the foundation that allows participants to develop into high-level athletes in the future. All basic skills will be covered including passing, setting, hitting, serving, defense, blocking, and offensive and defensive systems. Campers will also have the opportunity to dig deep and work hard in a positive and encouraging environment.
