Class of 2018: Chase Clarke

By: Ms. Monica Smith, Upper School Counselor
Most Likely to Tell a “One that got away” Story…Chase Clarke! That’s not really a superlative, but if it existed Chase would win it! After all, Chase is a legend at Cape Henry. Not only has he been a Dolphin for twelve years, but his fishing and hunting prowess are well known by all. He is legendary!

Twelve years at one school creates a lot of memories. Throughout his time at Cape Henry, Chase played soccer and lacrosse in middle school. In upper school, he was a member of the National Honor Society and a Peer Leader. He also spent time working out in the Creech Fitness Center. Outside of school, his time was spent hunting and fishing. He is a competitive freshwater fisherman who competed in his first tournament in 2013. It’s no surprise that he won that tournament. Remember, Chase is a legend!

Chase applied Early Action to Auburn and South Carolina, and he applied to Clemson as well. He visited all three schools, which helped him to narrow the list to Auburn and South Carolina. In the end, he selected Auburn as his home for the next four years. Auburn was his top choice plus he liked the family atmosphere because it reminded him of Cape Henry. The college town and southern charm of the people make Auburn a great place for Chase to pursue a degree in business and indulge his passion for fishing.

While Chase is looking forwarding to all that college has to offer, he is going to miss the atmosphere and people of Cape Henry. Classes like GEI, Calculus and Economics are memorable for Chase because of the subject matter and the teachers of the classes. One teacher who impacted Chase greatly is Mr. Cofer. Chase had three different classes with Mr. Cofer through middle and upper school, so he feels that he grew up with Mr. Cofer. Chase describes him as a good person, amazing teacher and an inspiration.

As he prepares to leave the school he has educated him from 1st to 12th grade, Chase doesn’t have any regrets, but he does have a few words of wisdom for younger Cape Henry students: Don’t overwhelm yourself with work; Take advantage of opportunities with teachers; Don’t wish the time away.

Staring off into the distance, Chase said, “I don’t want it to be over.” Neither do we Chase…neither do we!
