Cape Henry Collegiate has over 500 laptops that are distributed throughout campus. The majority of these are Chromebooks, web-based laptops based upon the Google Chrome operating system. Every student from Grade 1 to Grade 8 has a Chromebook assigned to them for their use. There are also approximately 50 desktop computers available for student use located in The Perry Library
All students from Grades 1-12 have a Google Apps account which allows them to create documents from any computer with a web browser and Internet connection. Students in Grades 6-12 also have a Google email account to be used for school-related work.
In addition to the desktops and laptops available for all grade levels, there are nearly 100 iPads in use in Lower School classrooms. Students in the lower grade levels are engaged in technology through interactive apps, while the older Lower School students use the iPads to create multimedia projects.
Cape Henry Collegiate has a high-speed wireless network with more than 50 access points located around campus. This ensures that our students, who are encouraged to bring laptops, and faculty have plenty of bandwidth available to them while on campus.
Our Internet connection consists of a dedicated fiber optic connection between Cape Henry Collegiate and WHRO, who serves as our Internet Service Provider (ISP). We have been continually increasing the speed of our connection to keep up with demand.
