- Class of 2022
Twenty members of Cape Henry Collegiate’s Class of 2022 are now members of the prestigious international Cum Laude society.
“The presence of a Cum Laude chapter at a school is a significant distinction in itself,” said Mr. David Willis, president of CHC’s Cum Laude Society chapter and World Languages department chair. “This society is a fellowship of scholars whose purpose is to recognize excellence in academic work.”
Just 328 secondary schools around the world are granted membership into the Cum Laude Society, each of them vetted for academic rigor and achievement.
“It has been a lot of work, especially balancing athletics and academics, so I’m happy to be recognized,” said inductee Zachary Granados. “I’m surrounded by a lot of people who have pushed me all four years, so it’s good to be here with them.”
Induction into the society, limited to the top 20 percent of the graduating class by GPA, is among the top academic honors CHC bestows, along with valedictorian and salutatorian.
Mr. Bobby and Mrs. Denise Clarke attended the ceremony to watch their daughter, Faith Clarke, be inducted.
“We’re very proud of her. She’s a very independent, self-motivated young lady,” Mrs. Clarke said. “I’m thankful for the support of Cape Henry teachers over the years and helping our kids become such independent thinkers. That’s one of the reasons we’re here as a family.”
