Cape Henry Collegiate varsity field hockey prepares for the annual Max Field Hockey National High School Invitational, joining 59 of the top field hockey programs across the United States on The Proving Grounds this weekend. Traveling to Conshohocken, Pennsylvania on Friday afternoon, the Dolphins will join 16 Virginia teams and one TCIS program in the country’s premier field hockey tournament.
“Max Prep is a very selective and competitive invitational tournament. This is the third year we have received an invitation to attend, which is a testament to the athletic program at Cape Henry Collegiate,” said Head Coach Kim Dooren. “The Proving Grounds, where the tournament is hosted, is named fittingly. Over the years, the tournament has grown and the best teams across the country are now in attendance each year.”
Taking on three of the nation’s top field hockey programs, the Dolphins first face Rancocas Valley Regional from Mt. Holly, New Jersey before a quick turnaround against 2021 Region 2 champions Sacred Heart Academy from Louisville, Kentucky on Saturday. Cape Henry Collegiate will face a final test Sunday, taking on Archbishop John Carroll High School of Radnor, Pennsylvania.
Field #6: Cape Henry Collegiate vs. Rancocas Valley Regional 1:00 p.m. Saturday
Field #4: Cape Henry Collegiate vs. Sacred Heart Academy 5:00 p.m. Saturday
Field #4: Cape Henry Collegiate vs. Archbishop Carroll 9:00 a.m. Sunday
“I am looking forward to playing against some tough competition and some teams from out of state that we rarely have the opportunity to see,” senior captain Mackenzie White said of her third trip to the Max Field Hockey Invitational. “The stiff competition we face helps us grow as a team. When we return, we often have a new outlook and this helps us come together as a group to accomplish our team goals.”
With Cape Henry Collegiate traveling to Pennsylvania for the third consecutive year, the Dolphins faithful have become accustomed to a new look and feel from varsity field hockey upon return from The Proving Grounds. Tested against the United States' top field hockey teams, Cape Henry Collegiate will return a stronger and more cohesive unit on Monday.
