The magnitude of Saniya Rhem’s performance in the Girls Varsity Soccer game vs Norfolk Academy can still be felt amongst her coaches and teammates. Saniya had a role in both goals of the 2-0 victory, assisting Kate Shepherd and netting her own from Olivia Zettervall. She managed to do all of this with the poise and composure of a veteran player, like she had been on this stage time and time again. She was fearless on the tackle and calculated, with the ball at her feet, to get in behind the NA defense. And finish!
Saniya has proven in skill and character, she is the breakout star of the season and a player to have made an instant impact with the Dolphins as an 8th grader.
Coach Lowry notes, “Having a player like Saniya on our front line is a threat to our opponents. She rarely loses the ball, keeps her feet, and has been serving balls across the box all season long for us to finish. To maintain the same steady work rate against an opponent of such caliber showed how effortlessly she has made an impact on our team this season. I look forward to 4 more years watching Saniya grow at Cape Henry both on and off the field”.
Saniya deserves this level of recognition for putting the lid on the Dolphins regular season. Watch out for her in the postseason.
Congratulations, Saniya Rhem, this week’s Athlete of the Week!
