CHC Announces New Head of Upper School
Christopher Garran, Ph.D., Head of School

Dear Cape Henry Collegiate Upper School Community:

After an extensive international search, I am pleased to announce that Mr. William Tragert will serve as Cape Henry Collegiate's next Upper School Head. Since 2019, Will has served as the Secondary School (Middle and Upper School) Principal at Bonn International School in Germany. Prior to that, he served as the Secondary School Assistant Principal at the American International School of Guangzhou. Before entering administration, Will served as a math teacher in China and Virginia. He holds a Bachelor's Degree from James Madison University, a Master's Degree from George Mason University, and earned his Virginia teaching license from the University of Virginia. For Will, this appointment at Cape Henry allows him to “come home” to Virginia.

As the Secondary School Principal in Bonn, Will currently leads the middle and upper school faculty and works with a student body of over 450 students. He has found ways to improve student wellness while also initiating innovative learning spaces on their campus. He brings a passion for global education to Cape Henry, which aligns perfectly with our Nexus Global Studies Program. Will is known in his community as a student-centered leader who is a strategic thinker and clear communicator. During his campus visit, he received very positive feedback from the faculty, staff, student, and parent groups with whom he met. The Head of the Upper School Search Committee found him to be a stellar candidate who exhibited strong leadership qualities and excellent interpersonal skills.

In accepting the position as our next Head of Upper School, Will stated:

I believe that one of the most important ingredients of successful schools is having a strong sense of community. During my visit to Cape Henry Collegiate earlier this month, I was overwhelmed with just how strong the school community is! Even though I only visited for one day, it was easy to see that the staff were committed and passionate. The students were dynamic and personable. The parents were supportive and caring. After nearly a decade of being part of school communities in China and Germany, I'm excited to return home to Virginia and thankful to be joining the incredible CHC community with my wife and three kids. I look forward to becoming a Dolphin and meeting you all in August!

This summer, I know that you will join me in welcoming Will, his wife, Laura, and their three children to the Cape Henry Collegiate community.

Sincerely,

Christopher Garran, Ph.D.
