Dolphins' First NCAA Division I Field Hockey Recruit Returns to CHC to Coach
By Ms. Jeanne Short, Director of Athletics

A true legend in the sport of field hockey, Cape Henry Collegiate alum Mrs. Kelsey Scherrer ‘09 returns this season to join the Dolphins coaching staff.

Mrs. Scherrer was the School’s first NCAA Division I field hockey recruit and went on to lead Virginia Commonwealth University in scoring for multiple seasons. After graduation, she continued on as a graduate assistant coach at VCU for one season.

“I am a proud CHC alum and cannot wait to be back on campus helping with the field hockey program,” Mrs. Scherrer said. “I have a 15-month-old daughter named Turner who is equally as excited to be on campus, taking on the role of volunteer mascot. Let’s get to work!”

At CHC, Mrs. Scherrer is remembered as a standout three-sport athlete, competing in field hockey, lacrosse and basketball. She earned All-State honors in field hockey and lacrosse and led both teams to TCIS and state championships. She joined the School’s Athletic Hall of Fame as a member of the 2013-2014 induction class.

This fall, Mrs. Scherrer joins head coach Mrs. Kim Dooren and coaches Mrs. Kylie Cale Nations and Mrs. Kim Oakes Marx to form a powerhouse coaching staff.
