A New Era for Dolphins Girls Basketball
Mrs. Alexandra Oglesby, Director of Communications

Cape Henry Collegiate's athletics department is excited to announce former professional basketball player Mr. Lance Hurdle will become the head coach of its varsity girls basketball team for the 2022-2023 season.

“It is an amazing privilege to be able to coach these athletes,” said Coach Hurdle, who will continue in his role as Middle School director of student life. “I am excited and honored to be a part of their journey as we compete and grow together.”

Coach Hurdle played professionally for 10 years in the NBA G-League and in Australia and has 13 years of coaching experience. Prior to his professional career, Hurdle was a standout at the University of Miami, where he was an integral part of the ACC powerhouse’s successful program.

As a coach, Hurdle led Basketball Queensland’s U16 state team to the Australian National Tournament and helped lead the Dolphins boys basketball team to a state championship last year as assistant coach.

"Those of us who have worked with Coach Hurdle are thrilled for what he’ll bring to our girls basketball team," said Athletic Director Ms. Jeanne Short. "His ability to coach skill development and the strategies of the sport of basketball are second only to his ability to connect with student athletes of all ages."

Hurdle also ran basketball clinics in aboriginal communities in Australia during his professional playing years and went on to co-found Excel Basketball Academy in Virginia Beach, where he is currently the executive director.
