- Athlete of the Week
- Girls Field Hockey
Joining varsity field hockey for the start of her Upper School tenure, this week's Athlete of the Week has become a staple in the cage for Dolphins field hockey. Thrust into the starting role as a sophomore at Cape Henry Collegiate, Tori Winans continues to excel, amassing over 40 saves across the first four contests of the year. Leading a core of young, budding goaltenders, Tori Winans will continue to command the Dolphins backline for the remainder of her senior field hockey season.
"Tori continued to show a great deal of tenacity during last week's games," Head coach Kim Dooren said. "She has come up with some huge saves that have kept us in games, and as the last line of defense, she has stood strong in keeping the ball out of the cage. With 16 saves against Tabb High School and 15 against First Colonial, Tori is certainly focused and determined. She has seen strong competition throughout the season and continues to prove resilient in the cage."
Despite the level of competition and early season woes for varsity field hockey, the level of play demonstrated from the Dolphins cage will continue to serve Cape Henry well as the Dolphins prepare for the heart of the season. With two conference opponents next, varsity field hockey will continue to look for Tori's steadiness in the cage as the Dolphins offense continues to build a cohesive attack.
The Dolphins will lean heavily on Tori Winans' experience and talent as the Dolphins take on perennial conference rivals Norfolk Academy on September 15 and Catholic High School on September 20.
