Athlete of the Week: AJ Swenney
Mr. Tyler Faubert, Asst. Director of Athletics

With Athlete of the Week AJ Swenney carrying the offensive load, Cape Henry boys basketball defeated two VISAA opponents following a 2-0 winter break stretch. Picking up the first win of the week in the contest's final minutes with Trinity Episcopal, AJ found himself with double figures in the scoring column. Following the week's opening win, the Dolphins dominated play over Christchurch on Cape Henry Collegiate's homecoming night, with AJ leading all scorers. As the Dolphins enter conference play next week, Cape Henry will lean heavily on the exceptional ball-handling and scoring abilities AJ brings to the floor each night.

"AJ was electrifying at the CHC homecoming, dropping 22 points and adding five three-pointers. AJ added the spark we needed to overcome two important VISAA opponents," Head Coach Mark Hall said. "He kicked off the week with a ten-point performance over a talented Trinity Episcopal program. He finished the week with one of his best performances in a CHC uniform. It seemed everything he touched found the bottom of the net on Friday night as he poured in a season-high 22 points."

The Dolphins continued the five-game streak with Friday night's win over Christchurch, as the demanding conference stretch is set to begin early next week. With the Dolphins consistently sharing the scoring efforts throughout the young season, the Dolphins boast a 7-2 record and a number ten ranking amongst public and private schools in Hampton Roads. With AJ finding his offensive groove, the Dolphins will rely heavily on the young point guard to carry boys basketball to a 14th TCIS regular season championship in 2023.

Next up for AJ Swenney and varsity boys basketball, Cape Henry Collegiate will travel to Kempsville High School on Saturday, January 14 for a 6:45 p.m. matchup with public school powerhouse Norview High School.
