Race at the Cape

There will be ample parking available on campus. We recommend parking in the lot directly in front of the main entrance of the School.

Bottled water will be available for all runners. 

Following the Race at the Cape, the Cape Henry Parents' Association will host its annual Fall Festival on the athletic fields, weather permitting. This event will have food trucks and fun for the entire family.

Yes, there will be one water stop, managed by the Cape Henry's Senior Peer Leaders, around the 1.5-mile mark.

There will not be sports drinks or energy gels on the course.

Headphones are allowed. Please be aware of your surroundings and other runners.

Yes. If you choose to run with a baby jogger, we ask that you start in the back of all runners. It is your responsibility to make sure the baby jogger does not impede other runners as well as you must take extra precaution as to your safety, your child’s safety and the safety of the runners around you. We reserve the right to pull any person from the race who is endangering other runners or themselves. Please note that the majority of the One-Mile Fun Run/Walk is located on the grassy athletic fields of Cape Henry Collegiate.

Unfortunately, we are not able to offer refunds, transfers, or deferrals for this event.

Only those that registered as a virtual participant will have their race items held and mailed to them. All items for day-of runners will be distributed on race day. Medals and other swag will not be available after the day of the event.

There are a limited number of registrations available for each race (including virtual entries):

• 275 One-Mile Entries
• 200 5K Entries
• 100 Dolphin Double Challenge Entries

Once a race sells out, we are no longer able to offer additional registrations for that event/category. Please plan to register early so ensure your family is able to experience this year's event.  

You may pick up your packet during Packet Pick-Up on Friday. If you chose the option to have your T-shirt, bib, and medals mailed, you should receive them the week following the race.

The following awards will be given for 5K participants:

Overall Winner

• Male (1st Place, 2nd Place, and 3rd Place)
• Female (1st Place, 2nd Place, and 3rd Place)

Overall CHC Alumni Winner

• Male (1st Place, 2nd Place, and 3rd Place)
• Female (1st Place, 2nd Place, and 3rd Place)

Overall Military Division Winner

• Male (1st Place, 2nd Place, and 3rd Place)
• Female (1st Place, 2nd Place, and 3rd Place)

Age-Group Winners  (1st, 2nd, and 3rd Place for Each Group/Gender)

• 1-10
• 11-13
• 14-18
• 19-29
• 30-39
• 40-49
• 50-59
• 60-99

The following awards will be given for One-Mile participants:

• Male (1st Place and 2nd Place)
• Female (1st Place and 2nd Place)

Note: Participants are also encouraged to check the results online. Awards will be distributed via CHC students and mailed to those outside the CHC Community.

Each year, Head of Lower School Mrs. Jamye offers up a competition between Lower School grade levels. The grades reaching participation levels for the Race at the Cape weekend events will win an ice cream party. Registrtaions for the one-mile, 5K and challenge count towards the participation levels.

Not at all! After you cross the 5K finish line, please proceed to the start area of the One-Mile course. After completing the one-mile course stay to the left at the finish line and you will receive all three medals at one time.
