College Counseling Office Mission Statement
To ensure that all students are known and valued, pushed to recognize what is great about themselves, taught to be self advocates, and given clear guidance in accomplishing the steps required to apply and gain admission to colleges which represent superior educational and personal matches.
At Cape Henry Collegiate, we offer a comprehensive, student-centered college counseling program that emphasizes finding the best fit for every graduate. We believe that the bridge between high school and college is a significant part of the learning experience and a critical piece in helping our students not only gain admission to excellent schools, but also sharpen the skills that will help them graduate four years later. We are committed to assuring that all students take responsibility for their college futures and take all the necessary steps to achieve admission to four year colleges.
From exploration to application to selecting a final choice, we are here to advocate for our students and guide them through what can be at times a challenging process. Through education, regular individual meetings, and a cooperative team approach, we seek to provide clarity and direction as our families wade into the murky waters of competitive college admissions.
A critical component of the College Counseling program at Cape Henry is the recognition that no two students are the same, and therefore the process must be highly individualized. We seek to meet our students where they are and take them as far as they can go. Students will have their life-changing experiences at their own paces. Our job is to guide them to those moments and supportively be there when they happen.
This is a very exciting time in the lives of young people and there have never been so many wonderful collegiate opportunities available. The college process should be a community effort with parents, teachers, advisors, counselors, and friends all working together to support our young men and women as they begin to take control of their futures.
